Krakarna

My aim was to self-publish 300 hand-bound copies of my debut graphic novel, Krakarna över Helsingfors. The book is a whimsical, illustrated story set in a modern fantasy version of Helsinki. My goal is to complete printing and binding by December 2021, with a release event at Luckan in Helsinki.

Challenge

The high production cost of laser-cut pages and hand-binding makes traditional publishing unfeasible. Initial attempts to secure a publisher failed due to these costs. Managing the production while self-funding the project requires careful planning.

Solution

By partnering with Sokkeli Printing, I can produce the books in smaller batches and bind them myself to reduce costs. I’ve already completed test prints and finalized all necessary materials. The upcoming release event will help distribute the books directly to readers.
